I'm Better Than (2020)

CONCEPT

I'm Better Than is a play featuring two disabled and non-disabled actors, with the purpose of exploring a theatrical environment where the disabled and non-disabled can co-exist. Every actor aspires to be 'better' in their profession. However, interviewing a number of disabled actors, I realized that their performances are met with sympathy rather than objective evaluations of their acting. Essentially, the stage acts as a continuation of society even when they deliver a performance on stage.

The understanding of the central problem in I'm Better Than begins here. Highlighting the painstaking efforts of disabled actors to become 'better', It throws a question as to whether the disabled and non-disabled can coexist on stage. Therefore, a mission is given to actors to perform a core element in performance - "getting closer to the character" - to play each other's roles. A disabled actor plays the role of the non-disabled actor, and vice versa - and have the time to share their experiences with the audience.

Ultimately, I'm Better Than is a stage for exploring what one would like to (act) better, would in fact do (act) better, and the tools that one needs to truly step up as a great actor; it answers questions regarding a 'better' existence.
